Re: West, Texas

We are a bit south (40 miles as the chicken hawk flies) of there but quite clearly heard the 'thump' that was the blast. West is known by Austin musicians for the Czech Stop and the wonderful 'Kolaches' kinda like the old Red Lodge on the A11 except this stuff is fresh and edible  Willie has p...

Re: Willie Nelson in 2013

In a genre more known for its 'cookie cutter' A&R decisions we need a whole lot more of this please !!, remember ?, original ? The mans a God to most folk in Texas anyway but he just announced profits from a gig are going straight to the Fire Dept and Ambulance crews in West, Texas after the town wa...

Re: Cornell Hurd Band

Funnily enough ...... I played with him Saturday at the opening of a new club in Salado ! He is at the height of his powers right now I reckon and standing up there with 8 (yes, eight) great players AND Cornell in front of it all was a blast for me !! Have a good trip, temps are down to high 80's or...

Re: Are (The) Eagles Country

Country - 'NO'
They weren't originally and they aren't now but I take the point they do sound a bit countryish these days as the Nashville output has tried to add a 'rockier' edge.
Always quite liked 'em, great harmonies and if nothing else they'll be remembered for Hotel California I guess :)

Re: This Is Proper Country....

'Quite' country ? I thought you said 'proper' country :) True enough Jerry Garcia had a long bluegrass history but I'm thinking he'll be spinnIng in his grave at the Dead being called 'any' kind of 'country' If adding steel to a track makes it 'country' then get ready to add Elton John, Rod Stewart,...

Re: Cornell Hurd Band

"Don't be too English about the music"?? Re: Cornell Hurd Band

Decisions, decisions !! :) Chicken sh*t is worth seeing but Ginnys is TINY so you need to get there fairly early, it will be packed right out in to the carpark but in true Texan tradition, it just works and everybody has a ball ! There is music there most nights of the week so keep an eye out, lots ...

Re: Cornell Hurd Band

Sounds good kev ! The Austin Chronicle is online and a good source of info but be warned !, things happen very quickly here, it's not the UK where clubs book years in advance, i'll often get a call for a gig and when I ask 'when is it' (thinking 'is it this month' ? ) they answer '9 O'Clock' !!! Gig...
