Help finding song

Postby Steve_jd » Wed May 17, 2017 10:28 pm

Hi all, first time poster, hoping you can help me. Unfortunately I am in the middle of arranging a funeral and I need to pick some songs. I heard what I think may be a fitting song on the radio but was driving and couldn't shazam it.

It was similar in style and tempo to the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt, but with a happier yet wistful, nostalgic feel. It was a male singer. The chorus had the closing line "you know that man is me" or "that man is me". I can't be certain and I don't want to send people down the wrong path but i get the impression it is a fairly old song, probably from the 50's-70's in America.

I have tried googling for a few days now but am making no progress and keep getting the Johnny Reid song That Man is Me, which isn't the song I am looking for....

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Firstly just to help with my ignorance, I first heard the term Shazam mentioned by Simon Cowell on X Factor UK and had no idea what is was. Then found that its some kind of charts. Is it some kind of APP that you can only use on Mobile devices and are the charts based on streaming - https://www.shazam.com/gb/apps
Sorry to hear about your loss.
Tricky one with that song as I mostly listen to female artists.
It might help if you told us which Radio Station you heard the song played on.
I'm wondering if it was a contemporary artist with a traditional sound.
2 guesses
Jon Pardi "That Man" - https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Digital-Musi ... 00HSSO2RE/
Chris Young - "The Man I Want To Be" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWcs1GmJRQs

Hi livewire, thanks for your kind response.

Shazam is an app for your phone. When you are listening to song you can open the app and "shazam" it, the app listens to the song for a few seconds and then, in most cases, tells you the artist and title. It only works off of hearing the actual song, you can't sing to the app yourself.

Unfortunately the songs you suggested were not the one I am looking for, but thanks again for your guesses.

I suspect I was listening on a classic rock station. I flit between several presets and can't be sure which one it was. The music could be described as acoustic rock as well I suppose.

Any others guesses anyone has are very welcome!

Might be the Josh Turner song "Your Man" but I'm not convinced it really fits your description of "similar in style and tempo to the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt, but with a happier yet wistful, nostalgic feel".
