New Stuff 2018

THE CHAMPION- CARRIE UNDERWOOD featuring LUDICRIS

Not sure what to make of this one. Carrie has long been going in a pop country route, but is this her bid to make a proper leap into the pop world on the heels of Taylor Swift?
Somewhat overblown, it sounds like the theme song for a movie. And then there is the inevitable interlude with the obligatory rapper (in this case Ludicris) doing his thing.
Another bombastic, earsplitting offering from Carrie, but it is not all bad. But are her vocals getting weaker? Are all those singing to the max of vocal gymnastics affecting her vocal chords? To me her voice sounds weaker.

A million miles away from Ms Underwood, here's the new single by the Western Swing Authority, "Extra-Ordinary", with a new album promised for later in the year.

Can't believe our resident 'exclusives' man missed this one ... a country(ish) single from Kylie Minogue! Not something I would personally choose to play but it's certainly as country (if not more) than some of the poppy stuff currently being churned out by people like Sam Hunt!

I look forward to hearing that one, have loved some of his previous albums, though not as keen on his last few.

I never rated Kylie as a pop singer & i don't rate her much as a country singer, either. The verses are OK, though her vocals are way too "breathy", but the chorous is awful, in my humble opinion.

Now, when it comes to pop singers doing a good country album, you can't do better than Cyndi Lauper from a couple of years back. Now there is someone who can really sing. Pink could do a pretty good country album, too.
Kylie? "Not for me" as the Welshman said to the kilt salesman.

Hmm, didn't like the Cyndi Lauper album but then I've never liked her squeaky vocals. But at least she covered some classic country songs rather than just go down the line of producing an album of the poppy country stuff that's around at the moment.
