Creetown Festival Cancelled

Postby JohnC » Thu Mar 24, 2011 7:14 pm

Press release from Kevin Dodd:

Unfortunately the 2010 Creetown Country Music Festival incurred a substantial loss, mainly due to lack of support and anticipated sponsorship / funding.

We have spent months trying to find ways of clearing this loss in order to enable us to run the festival again in 2011, we could dilute the experience and increase the ticket price 30%, however we would only be kidding ourselves if we were to believe this would attract you the customer.

We have operated the festival for 14 years with a voluntary committee and the thought of a debt situation, with bills not being paid is not one we are taking lightly.

Therefore we have come to the conclusion that there is no way we can run a 3 day live music festival based on the present level of support and economic climate; and have taken the decision not to run the festival in 2011 but to concentrate on addressing the financial situation and plan for a quality festival in 2012.
We have made many friends over the past 14 years and we know that this decision will be a great disappointment to a lot of people, but I hope you will appreciate the reasons for this decision.
Finally we would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has become part of the festival over the years, those attending, those visiting and those providing untold unpaid hours in the background.

Never been to Creetown, but it's not good when festivals have to be cancelled.

That's sad, Hope it is only for one year that is cancelled. Festivals give joy to a lot of people.Must be disappoint for the organisers too. I must take a lot of work, time, effort and cash to put on such an event.

I wonder if the Beeb ALBA (Ceol Contry) actually paid anything to air the festival.

They did but it wasn't very much.
Also, it was 2009 when the program was filmed.

They wanted to film again in 2010, but started to put stipulations on. :rofl3:
e.g. they wanted some 'big names' from America, but didn't want to pay for them. :rofl3:
Thet were refused.... :rflmao:

The money that they paid would not have solved the financial problems. It would only have reduced them slightly...
