oh the huge Manatee!

"Shoppers at a Target store in Brooklyn say a label that listed the color of a plus-size dress as "manatee gray" was insulting.
The label for the same dress in smaller sizes described it as "dark heather gray." Target apologized for the label.

Michelle Ho, shopping at the store at Atlantic Terminal Mall, told the New York Post that Target was "putting down one set of people over another" with the different labels.

Spokeswoman Jessica Deede called the labeling of the Massimo-brand "Women's Plus-Size Kimono Maxi Dress" "an unintentional oversight." She said although manatee gray was a seasonal color, Target was "fixing the discrepancy." She said the item was removed from the company website." - A.P.

Michelle Ho? I know her sister, Heidi.

'Three men were forcibly removed from an annual culture festival in Saudi Arabia and subsequently sent back to the UAE after it was deemed that women could find them irresistible. The delegates from the UAE were in attendance at the Jenadrivah Heritage & Culture Festival in Riyadh, the Saudi capital when religious police officers stormed the stand and evicted the men because "they are too handsome," according to the Arabic language newspaper, Elaph'

Which is why I cannot ever go to Riyadh.

Two suspected peeping Toms earned themselves a cuffing last weekend after apparently crashing through the ceiling of the women's toilet in a Georgia cinema, having failed to correctly assess the structure's load-bearing capacity. According to cops, Eduard Petrovich Kovynev, 26, and Eduard Alexander Kovynev, 27, allegedly climbed from the men's restroom at the Venture Value Cinema in Duluth on Sunday night and positioned themselves above the stalls of the women's.

'Cue a rapid descent, according to police, followed by a trip to the lock-up, where the pair were charged with "invading the privacy of female customers and criminal damage to property". The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has a local news video report on the incident right here, http://www.ajc.com/news/news/local/police-peeping-toms-fall-through-bathroom-ceiling/nXbkH/?src=cb_article which includes reporter Kerry Kavanaugh's truly sensational graphic of just how it's believed the suspects made their way into the ceiling' - The Register.

A knife-wielding man dressed up as Tony Montana from the 1983 classic "Scarface" taunted police during a real-life standoff in L.A. ... and stayed in character the entire time.

'It all went down at an apartment complex in Hollywood around 10pm Tuesday night. Cops were called to the scene to respond to a man wearing a Tony Montana-style white suit (with the big pimped-out collar) who began screaming at people while waving a machete.

'When cops arrived, a police negotiator tried to convince the man to surrender peacefully - but he responded by screaming various quotes from "Scarface" while pointing to a DVD copy of the movie he was carrying in his non-machete hand.

An air passenger was kicked off a flight for repeatedly singing Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You.

The American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York was diverted to Kansas City so marshals could remove the woman from the plane because she kept singing the song. The tuneless singing began shortly after the flight took off, but around halfway through it became too much for fellow passengers and staff to bear. The woman was filmed being escorted from the plane, in handcuffs, still belting out the 1992 number one hit.

Kansas City Airport spokesman Joe McBride said: "The woman was being disruptive and was removed from the plane for interfering with the flight crew. "There was a federal air marshal on the aircraft, who subdued the woman and put her in cuffs and removed her from the plane."

The woman was later released without charge. She had to make her own arrangements for the rest of her journey as the airline would not let her board another flight.

Star Wars and Doctor Who fans clash at Norwich convention

Police were called to a science fiction convention after an argument between two rival groups of fans.

Trouble flared at the fourth Norwich Sci-Fi and Film Convention at the University of East Anglia, organised by Norwich Star Wars Club.

Police were called after members of the rival Norwich Sci-Fi club arrived to get autographs from two Doctor Who actors at the event on Sunday.

Norfolk Police confirmed officers attended and spoke to both parties.

A spokesman said they had been called to reports of a man being assaulted at the convention.

"After a lengthy investigation, talking to witnesses and reviewing good CCTV footage, it was confirmed that there was no assault," the spokesman said.

"The two rival groups were spoken to and advised to keep out of each other's way."

Jim Poole, treasurer of Norwich Sci-Fi Club, said there was a history of rivalry and disputes between the two clubs, which both hold their own conventions in the city.

He said he had attended Sunday's event with another club member to get the autographs of actors Graham Cole and Jeremy Bullock for a Doctor Who diary to be auctioned for charity.

Mr Poole said he was wearing a club top and his fellow member was dressed as the fifth Doctor, as played by Peter Davison.

Jim Poole said there was a history of disputes between the clubs He said once inside the hall, he received verbal abuse from a member of the rival club and called the police.

"I was put in a police car. We were both interviewed by the police and told to stay away from each other," he said.

Mr Poole said two other members of his club, one dressed as the 10th Doctor and the other as Judge Dredd, had waited outside the venue.

"This wasn't a fight between Star Wars fans and Doctor Who fans with lightsabres and sonic screwdrivers drawn," he said.

"It's a bit sad and pathetic. We're all in the same boat. We're not in competition.

"We'd like to extend the hand of friendship."

Mr Poole said his club was considering having uniformed security guards at its own Norwich Sci-Fi Convention in September in case of further trouble.

Dominic Warner, secretary of Norwich Star Wars Club, said: "It's been blown up as if it was a fight. There was no fighting."

He acknowledged there had been disputes between club members in the past, but said: "There is no bad feeling between the two clubs. We have never interfered with them.

"It does sound comical. People that dress up in costume are labelled geeks and some people laugh at us, and this just makes it even more so."

He said the two clubs were having discussions about a meeting to resolve their differences.

It wasn't the average traffic stop on the Baltimore Beltway Tuesday morning.

Maryland state troopers noticed a man playing a drum kit on the shoulder of the Interstate 695 inner loop, between Windsor Mill Road and Security Boulevard, around 10:30 a.m., a spokeswoman said.

He told state police he had run out of gas and decided to set up and practice until assistance arrived. A State Highway Administration truck stopped and helped him refill his tank

The drummer was not cited and continued on his way, she said. Police did not identify him.

My apologies to anyone of a squeamish disposition but this is simply remarkable. What a shock for the poor guy.

A 66-year-old apparently male patient made a stunning discovery when he sought treatment for swelling in his abdomen. The swelling was a cyst on his ovary and he was in fact a woman. The condition was caused by a very rare combination of two genetic disorders. One, Turner syndrome, causes women to lack some female features, including the ability to get pregnant. Sufferers usually look like women, but in this case the patient also had congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), which boosted the male hormones and made the patient look like a man. The case was reported by doctors from Kwong Wah Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, who treated the patient. It was published in the Hong Kong Medical Journal yesterday.

"The patient, by definition, is a woman who cannot get pregnant. But she also has CAH, which gave her the appearance of a man," Chinese University paediatrics professor Ellis Hon Kam-lun said. "It's an interesting and very rare case of having the two combinations. It probably won't be seen again in the near future." The 66-year-old Vietnam-born Chinese man is an orphan. He has a beard, small penis and no testes. Just 1.37 metres tall, he has decided to continue perceiving himself as a male and may receive male hormone treatment, the report said. When pressed, he disclosed a long history of urinary leakage and arrest of growth after puberty at the age of 10

I saw this story on the BBC News site .... begs the question how you dress up as David Hasselhoff for a fancy dress!!

'Superheroes' nab attacker in Musselburgh Tesco

A group of people dressed as Batman, Robin, David Hasselhoff and a Smurf helped police officers catch a criminal in an East Lothian supermarket.

A man dressed as Robin was on Eskview Road in Musselburgh when he was assaulted just before 20:00 on Friday.

He and his friends, who were all in fancy dress, called police before chasing the attacker into Tesco.

After a scuffle in the toilet roll aisle, a 21-year-old man was arrested. He later pled guilty in court.

The incident came to light after East Lothian Police tweeted about it, thanking the fancy-dressed group for their help.

One Tweet read: "Thank you to Batman, Robin, Robin's Dad, a Smurf, and the Hoff for helping us on Friday night. #Tesco, sorry about the toilet roll aisle."

Another Tweet by police officers in East Lothian read: "Robin assaulted, police called, collective assisted our foot chase, minor upset to shelving in Tescos during arrest, you couldn't script it!"

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with an assault in Eskview Road, Musselburgh, on Friday 1 November.

"He was remanded in custody until Monday 4th November, where he appeared in court and pled guilty to the offence."
