IIRC there's a chain of fast food outlets called Crystalburger or Krystalburger?

Exactly! Crystal's real name was Brenda Gail Webb. As Brenda Lee was already a big star then, Ms Webb & her sister Loretta Lynn thought a different name would be good. While driving around they noticed a poster advertising the Krystal burger chain, & decided then on the name. And a star was born!!!

You may know this already but Crystal Gayle owns a gift shop in Nashville that specialises in all sorts of crystalware.

However, did you know that her interest in crystalware began when she appeared on Val Doonican's tv show in the mid 1970's? Val presented her with a gift of a set of Waterford crystal. This piqued her interest and she became a collector, and eventually a shop owner.

That explains her picture in the visitor center at the Waterford factory.

Better give the answer.
Merle Travis
Merle Kilgore
Merle Haggard (thought this one would have done it)
and Merle Dixon (from a popular tv show)

Any guesses? A clue: the link between the three pictured is in the subject of some of their best known songs.

My mind was running along that course. John Anderson's most well known song (probably) was Seminole Wind (although Swingin' might challenge it). Seminole Wind was about the Everglades and the environmental damage done to them. Kenny Chesney has done quite a few songs with a beach bum/ Florida/ Key West theme.
Not so sure about Shelly West. She's more identified with the land-locked state of Oklahoma (You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma). She did have José Cuervo, a song about tequila. However tequila originates in Mexico. Florida and Mexico both border the Mexican Gulf but that seems way too much of a vague link. Grasping at straws time.

Bill, you mentioned one of the songs by Shelley West that fits into this link. The clue is not geographical. The other guys have done songs on a similar topic. I was thinking of a relatively recent song by Kenny, which he did as a duet.

Not geographical? Got to be alcohol-related then.
Shelley West - José Cuervo.
Kenny Chesney had a drinking song that was mentioned on the big clean-up thread. Give me a while to see if I can remember it without googling.
John Anderson - Straight Tequila Night. Aha! I'm guessing the missing Kenny Chesney track references Tequila too?

You have it, Bill. The connection is tequila.
Kenny Roger's hit was called "You & Tequila", a song written by Deana Carter & Matraca Berg.
