Website help please?

Some friends and I started up our own band a few months ago and we're thinking of setting up a site we can use to promote ourselves. As the appointed 'tech guy' I've been tasked with setting it all up, but I could do with some advice on how to go about it - which kinds of hosts I should be looking at, how much to pay, what will be easy to maintain, etc. I've found http://www.1and1.co.uk/ but would like to know if anyone else on here has used them before, before I go and sign up. If not, what do people use and what would you recommend? I just need something straightforward that doesn't require any messing about with coding or anything. Any tips would be great.

Initially keep it simple, clear and uncluttered.
Don't go overboard on images and graphics - they only get a glance.
We surfers are a fickle lot and if we don't like the page we will move on.
Don't put up too many embedded or Cloud tracks to begin with.
Don't put up too many links.
When you have created a Web following you can fine tune your site based on 'hits'.
