Apple Mac Laptop

Postby foot-tapper » Sat Feb 04, 2012 11:13 am

Don't know if any of you out there are Apple Mac users but some nice person has given me a MacBook Pro Laptop to use.

Instead of the MS Office I am used too it has IWork
Ith has a Word type app called Pages and an Excel type called Numbers.
Do you know a way to get a Microsoft PC to read documents created in "Pages"and "Numbers" or will I have to get Office for Mac to make the two compatible???

I'm pretty sure John Stannard is a Mac guru - try PM'ing him.

But do you think John has time to come on here now.
According to Facebook he is having a busy but very enjoyable time in Texas.

I appreciate he is recently married and busy but I suspect a PM from here mentioning "Mac and help" will get his attention.
I've never known him resist an opportunity to convert a PC user to a Mac  .

http://www.apple.com/iwork/compatibility/

Way I've read it is when you save the file change the file type to the office equivalent.

Just save everything you do in Pages, Numbers, or Keynote as a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file.

I don't have a Mac but do have iTunes, iPod & iPad and find the Apple Communities (forums) very helpful although they can get a tad fanatic.

Sorry mate !!!!, got a Friday night off and been doing a bit of a 'catch up' but looks like you've found it > 'File - Export' is your answer but ......
depending on the other users PC you may lose some information (fonts, formatting etc) in the conversion.
If your document is the finished version it's best to export as a .pdf file, that way the information will be finalised as you see it, better yet, if the other person has a PC just say 'I'm not talking to you ever again' - and don't !!
BTW, if you fancy it, the M/Soft for Mac version of Office is pretty good, it is usually released for Mac long before it's PC counterpart but the Apple 'iWorks' suite is a terrific suite of apps, take some time and download some templates from the iWork community site, that'll get you going.
Gotta run, someone said there's a cloud coming over today and i'd like to see it !!
