VIC HOLDROYD - A GREAT LESSON TO US ALL

Postby Wye Creek Music » Fri Aug 12, 2011 5:34 pm

Vic Holdroyd is as songwriter from Yorkshire who had been working hard at getting recognition for his songs for many, many years.

Wye Creek Music heard Vics tracks last year and believed them to be top class and after a good pub lunch in Holmsfirth (Last of the Summer wine country) Vic and ourselves agreed to work together.

Not only has Vic's own 10 Track Album 'Country Songs For Today' been nomitated as Best Album in this years BCMAwards, but one of his songs ' California Here I Come" is up for Best original Song of the Year !

Also 5 yes 5 of Vics songs features on Darren Busbys mini-Album 'At the End of the Day' which is also nominated for Album of the Year.

So this is a lesson to all songwriters DONT GIVE UP, if you believe in your songs , stick at it and one day You may get the recognition that you deserve like Vic

Well Done Vic !!!

Thanks for the kind comments on the radio station - at the moment until I can rope others in , it's just me introducing the tracks .. and keeping awake 24/7 is a bit tricky!!

By the way John C interviewed Vic Holdroyd for BCMI Radio a month or so ago and you can still listen via the radio section of this website.

Or if you go to http://www.songwriterradio.org/programmes.html there's Podcast of an interview I did with Vic about The Company album that you can get.

We are also playing tracks from other BCMA Nominees on songwriterradio.org such as Brian Hughes and Stubby and I have contacted several other nominees asking if they want us to play their tracks too.

We are also playing and promoting all the shortlisted finalists in Ukcountryradio.com's "Listeners Choice Awards" - even though you may think they are a competitor radio station, Country Music is a specialist niche in the UK and we want to support and play original country music and support others doing the same.

Keep it up Mike (if you can).
I appreciate the 'home grown' stuff.

Pity no-one else has seen fit to comment - they usually have a lot to say about the state of British CM.

Promoting any music is a difficult job. Trying to push unknown songs by unknown acts is even harder. There are 100's if not 1000's of people spending their time writing songs and then sometimes paying a lot of money getting them recorded and trying to get someone other than friends and family to listen.

ALL the music we play on http:/www.songwriterradio.org are original tracks usually (but not always) performed by the composers. We don't care that they have'nt got a very expensive videos or don't get snaped by paparazzi falling out of night clubs at 3am ! or aren't going to be the next face on the front cover of Vogue.

I will admit that the production quality of some of the tracks may not be up to Abbey Road standard .. (some we know have actually been mixed at Abbey Road) but if anyone tunes in and listens once for say 10 - 15 mins , I think they will be impressed by the quality of what we play. Once they get over the shock that they WON'T hear Top 40 tracks or "famous acts" and just judge the music in its own right without the hype ... I hope they will like it and apprciate the efford that the people making the music have put into it. No one has given them a £100.000 advance.

We are working to expand our 'shop' page on SongwriterRadio.org so that ALL the music we play can be bought via this page .... not necessarily from us . but we will put links to artist own sites or shops selling their music to make it easy for people to say ' I like that track '- click onto our shop page and know they can get it there.

We get new tracks sent each day and I now produce a New Additions Show each week to showcase these. Amougst this weeks new additions are trackls by country acts such as Mike Lane , Sam Millar and one of the acts up for Best Americana acts in this years BCMAwrds 2 Fingers of Firewater. You probably wouldnt hear any of them on Radio 2 - yet we give them the chance to be heard ... and because its the Internet .. heard all over the world.

Regards

Mike

They certainly should. I have this listed in my 'favourites' toolbar.
