Who should be the Forum's state musician?

Postby lo&m » Sun May 10, 2015 8:21 pm

AUSTIN, TEXAS (May 7, 2015) — In proceedings held Thursday at the Texas State Capitol in Austin, Americana Music Legend Joe Ely was formally appointed the Official Texas State Musician for 2016. The iconic artist is being recognized for his exceptional and outstanding commitment to the arts in Texas.

“I’m humbled to be recognized in this manner by the state of my birth,” said Ely, a native Texan born in Amarillo, raised in Lubbock and currently living on his ranch just outside of Austin. “As a songwriter, I’ve always felt extremely fortunate to have grown up in such an inspirational place with its rich, compelling history and is filled with some of the most fascinating characters in the world.”

A piece from Christian's CMNI. It prompted a thought by me, who would we choose as official state musician? Obviously we don't have such an award in Britain and it's probably a good thing too. It would only end up being some industry nominated insider.

So instead, I'd like to open the question up to the forum. Who do you think should be the official BCM Community musician for 2015?
Rules are simple. One nomination per member and it must be a person or band currently working in the UK. Overseas born acts may be considered but only if they're based in or do much of their work in the UK.

Ags Connolly gets my vote - gigs regularly in the UK, has released a great self written album, and has also had some degree of success in the States.

I was hoping for more response than this. If we'd had a few more nominations, I would have run a poll to find the winner. As it is, I am not going to Email Ags Connolly to inform him he's our choice on the basis of one single vote. :)

Got to be Billy Yates- a regular visitor to these shores.
Would be nice to have someone British though.
